  • About Us

The constitution of India envisages the establishment of new social order based on equality, freedom, justice and dignity of the individual. It aims at the elimination of poverty, ignorance and ill-health and directs the State with regard to raising the level of nutrition and the standard of living of the people, securing the health and strength of workers, men and women, and especially ensuring that children are given opportunities to develop in a healthy manner. Strictly to the tune of constitutional directives and sincerely to the commitment for "Health for All", the main functions of the department may be precisely summed up as curative, preventive and promotive services. Healthy people, having sound physique and mental development provide a firm foundation for the national development. Whatever is spent on the improvement for invigorating human resources for higher productivity in every sphere of socio-economic development. The Health and Family Welfare Department is committed to provide preventive, promotive and curative Health Services to the people of the State through a good net-work of medical institutions such as sub-centers, subsidiary health centers (dispensaries/Clinics etc.), primary health centers, community health centers, Sub-Divisional and Distt. Hospitals, Government Medical & Dental Colleges (attached hospitals).

  • District

Ramban is an important District/town on Jammu–Srinagar National Highway 1-A, about 150 kms from Jammu and is situated on the right bank of River Chenab. At Present Ramban is a District with Tehsil Ramban, Tehsil Gool and Tehsil Banihal as its constituents.The District is bounded by District Anantnag on the North, Tehsil Doda on the East and District Udhampur on the South as well as West.Since Ramban district has been recently formed from its parent district Doda and comprises of large unserved and underserved areas due to difficult hilly terrain. Hence there has been very little development including lack of health facilities, poor transport network and communication. Also as per the population norms there is a need to increase their numbers of CHCs, PHCs and Subcentres considering the difficult terrain of Subcentres.

  • District Demography

District Ramban is one of the newly carved out eight districts of J&K.The district having an area of 1527.6467 Sq.Kms accounts about 0.69% of total provisional area(222236.0000 Sq.Kms) of J&K state.The population of this district(214944) accounts about 2.12% of the state population(101143700) and ranks 17th position in the state.Similarly density of population is 189 persons per Sq.Km

  • Geograph

Ramban district consists of 4 blocks: Ramban, Banihal, Gool and Ramsoo and two tehsils- Ramban & Banihal.Ramban town is located along river Chenab also known as Chanderbhaga river on National Highway-1A(now 44) at about 150 km from Jammu and about 150 km from Srinagar making it almost a central point on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway

  • Jawahar Tunnel

Jawahar Tunnel ,named after the first Prime Minister of India, was constructed for round-the-year surface transport between 1954 and 1960. The Jawahar tunnel has been operational since 22 December 1956. The length of tunnel is around 2.5 km , and it is situated between Banihal and Qazigund.It facilitates road connectivity to Kashmir valley. The tunnel was renovated by the Border Roads Organization under the project BEACON in 1960
